Here’s what you will need to make this vegan apple crisp

Full recipe with measurements in recipe card below

  • Sliced and peeled apples see notes
  • Brown sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Corn starch
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon
  • flour
  • Rolled oats
  • Cane sugar
  • Vegan butter

How to make this vegan apple crisp

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Peel and slice apples. see notes
  3. To a large bowl add apple slices, brown sugar, lemon juice, corn starch, salt and cinnamon. Carefully mix until all of the apples are well coated. Then pour into the prepared baking dish.
  4. To another bowl add flour, rolled oats, cane sugar, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon. Mix. Once mixed use clean hands or a pastry cutter and pinch cold butter into the flour and oat mixture creating crumbs. Once everything in well incorporated and crumbs form, sprinkle on top of the apples making sure the crumb is evenly distributed.
  5. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until golden brown on top and you see some bubbling of the apples. Mine baked for around 40 minutes. Let sit for 15 minutes before eating.

How to store

Once cooled store any leftovers in an airtight container with a lid. The apple crisp can be left out at room temperature for up to 2 days, the refrigerator for 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or in a 300°F oven for around 5-10 minutes.

How to serve

While still warm spoon some of the apple crisp onto a plate or bowl and top with your favorite vegan vanilla ice cream or vegan whipped cream.

Notes

  • What type of apple did you use?
    • I used pink ladies because they were on sale but, I think Granny Smith, Fuji, Honey Crisp and Golden Delicious are also good choices. Honestly, I think you could use any apples you’d like or a few different apple varieties to make this apple crisp. The choice is yours!
  • How thick did you cut your apples?
    • I cut my apples a little smaller then 1/4 of an inch. So I’d say stick to around 1/4 of an inch or a little thinner. Just make sure to make uniform slices so the apples bake evenly.
